If you see your car lights flickering while driving, it’s most likely due to a battery that’s failing. If the car battery is normal, there are other trouble areas that may be responsible for the issue. Whether it’s the battery or something else, it’s imperative that you have the problem fixed ASAP. When your lights aren’t functioning properly, you might become a danger to yourself and other drivers.

If the car battery isn’t the reason for your flickering car lights, you might be looking at a failing light bulb. Failing bulbs are an easy fix and present an opportunity to upgrade to new LED bulbs.
If it is a bad fuse, you could be looking at a larger issue than you had originally anticipated. A fuse fails when there is excess electricity flowing through it. For example, if the anti-lock brakes are connected to a 10amp fuse, and the fuse receives over 10amps of electricity, the fuse would fail. In this example, your anti-lock brakes would fail due to the blown fuse. If there’s a fuse that continues to fail, bring it in so we can accurately diagnose the bigger, potentially more dangerous issue.
Lights flickering on the dashboard may also be one of the signs the alternator is going to die. Consider this, you use battery power to start your vehicle, but to keep your car running, the power is supplied by your alternator. If you drive an older car with halogen lights, you may see them slowly get dimmer with a dying alternator. On newer cars equipped with LED or HID lights, they may flicker or stop functioning altogether.
A bad light switch, either the headlight switch or the interior lights dimmer, also needs to be checked out if you have flickering lights on the vehicle. In some uncommon situations, just replacing a worn-out switch could solve the flickering light issue, especially in vehicles with excessive wear or older vehicles. If your car doesn’t fall into either category, it could be symptoms of a bigger problem with the vehicle’s electrical system.
